# Constitution consultation

## Constitution consultation

The Cardano Constitution was not drafted in a boardroom. Over 2024 the Civics Committee coordinated [**more than 60 community-run Constitutional Workshops**](https://intersectmbo.org/news/celebrating-the-journey-constitutional-workshops)**, in over 50 countries on all six inhabited continents**, from Lagos to Lima, Seoul to Sydney, and Tallinn to Toronto. Each workshop elected a delegate and an alternate to carry its community's conclusions into the drafting of the Constitution. It was the committee's single largest coordination effort.

#### The reach

|                           |                                     |
| ------------------------- | ----------------------------------- |
| Workshops                 | 63 with recorded delegate elections |
| Countries and territories | 51                                  |
| Continents                | 6 (all inhabited)                   |

#### How it worked

* The Civics committee opened a [**grant programme**](https://docs.intersectmbo.org/intersect-knowledge-base/archive/cardano-budget-archive/intersect-operational-services/2024-intersect-cdh-and-grant-contracts/2024-cdh-grants/closed-grants/constitutional-workshops) through Intersect (23 May 2024) and funded the workshops, each electing a delegate and an alternate to represent its community (13 June 2024).
* A **two-day drafting session** in [July 2024](https://committees.docs.intersectmbo.org/intersect-civics-committee/meeting-minutes/2024-civics-meeting-minutes/civics-meeting-minutes-july-18-2024) produced the question set every workshop worked from, covering principles and tenets, amendments, the Constitutional Committee, financial sustainability, dispute resolution, the voting model and DReps.
* The committee **certified the delegate elections** and analysed the output (5 September 2024), which fed **five regional delegate synthesis workshops**, including a hybrid in-person and virtual session in Costa Rica (7 November 2024).
* [The **Constitutional Convention**](https://www.iog.io/news/from-convention-to-ratification-the-cardano-constitution) in Argentina in December 2024 finalised the draft, an undertaking that included securing a venue through repeated site visits and coordinating international travel and visas for delegates from around the world.

#### Outputs

The process produced the [Draft Constitution](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SYFzjrRjf7rkBrLRjPi51AyzbZBajrmZ/view?usp=drive_link) and the [Cardano Tenets](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wGTiTkVMWBel_kTfqNrHAl2irphBXD_3/view), along with a [Constitutional Debt Backlog](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Bmethc-6Ww7JwVIpRPkBHaeUN8Hrln1bIggry4NJYXI/edit?usp=sharing) recording the issues raised but not resolved during drafting, so that later amendment work would have a record to pick up.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://civicscommittee.docs.intersectmbo.org/our-previous-work/constitution-consultation.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
